Bass Harbor
Bass Harbor anchors Tremont’s working waterfront and the far western Quiet Side. Use it for lighthouse sunsets, short coastal trails, lobster pounds, and cruises away from east-side traffic.
Photo source ↗How this place took shape.
Bass Harbor remains a working fishing village and one of Maine’s important lobster ports. Its waterfront history also includes the Underwood sardine cannery, which operated from 1889 into the late 1960s.
Bass Harbor Head Light was first lit on September 1, 1858 to mark the entrance to Bass Harbor and Blue Hill Bay. The active light and its 32-foot brick tower became part of Acadia National Park in 2020.
